Part Time Food Service Supervisor
Tim Hortons was established in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and businessman Jim Charade. Initially focusing on doughnuts and coffee, the brand has evolved into Canada’s largest quick-service restaurant chain, offering a diverse menu that includes sandwiches, wraps and baked goods.
As of September 2023, Tim Hortons operates 5,701 restaurants across 13 countries, reflecting its significant global presence.
In 1967, Tim Horton partnered with Ron Joyce, a former Hamilton police officer and early franchisee. Following Horton’s untimely death in 1974, Joyce acquired Horton’s shares for $1 million, becoming the sole owner. Under Joyce’s leadership, the chain experienced rapid expansion, reaching 500 stores by 1991. The company underwent several ownership changes, including a merger with Wendy’s in 1995 and later becoming part of Restaurant Brands International in 2014, alongside Burger King and Popeyes.
Beyond its culinary offerings, Tim Hortons has become deeply ingrained in Canadian culture. The term “Double Double,” referring to coffee with two creams and two sugars, was added to the Canadian Oxford Dictionary in 2004.
The brand is also known for its community initiatives, such as the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, established in 1975 to support disadvantaged children.
These efforts have solidified Tim Hortons’ reputation as a cherished national institution in Canada.
