Manufacturing Engineer Needed In UK- Visa Assistance Available

Dowty Propellers, a division of GE Aerospace, is dedicated to the design, manufacture, repair and overhaul of advanced carbon fibre propeller systems used in both military and civilian aviation. Our operations are centered at our state-of-the-art headquarters in Brockworth, Gloucestershire, UK, where we manage the entire lifecycle of propeller systems, including obtaining Type Certification. We are currently looking for a skilled professional to join our Manufacturing Engineering (ME) team.

This team plays a pivotal role in translating precise design specifications into effective manufacturing solutions, supporting both production and supplier operations within a framework that emphasizes Safety, Quality, Delivery and Costs. The ME team is involved in serial production, New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Technology Introduction (NTI) programs, ensuring that our manufacturing processes are both efficient and compliant with industry standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of key activities, including ensuring safety and compliance in all tasks, authoring and approving process routings and specifications and overseeing CNC program validation. They will also play a critical role in problem-solving, identifying improvements and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement solutions.

Required qualifications include a relevant HNC or degree and experience in manufacturing engineering, with a strong ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications. Job Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure safety and compliance in all tasks performed by yourself, the ME team and the business.
  2. Develop and approve manufacturing process routings, process specifications, tooling solutions and rework activities, in accordance with UK CAA Part 21.
  3. Provide technical planning and authorization for repair, overhaul and rework tasks, following UK CAA Part 145 regulations.
  4. Calculate and maintain process standard times.
  5. Offer advice and support for training, daily management in the shop and resolving shop-related queries.
  6. Take ownership of and validate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) programs used for production assets.
  7. Implement structured problem-solving approaches and robust root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
  8. Identify and propose solutions and improvements and work cross-functionally to implement them through research, development, qualification and production phases.
  9. Collaborate with external suppliers as needed, working in conjunction with the sourcing team.
  10. Develop process and product quality plans, conduct measurement systems analysis and perform process failure mode effects analysis (PFMEA) in line with Advanced Process Quality Planning (APQP) standards.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Characteristics:

  • HNC or a degree in a relevant field or equivalent manufacturing engineering experience on the shop floor.
  • Solid understanding of Manufacturing Engineering roles and success factors.
  • Ability to interpret 2D (legacy) drawings and technical specifications, identifying manufacturability challenges and proposing production solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development and technical learning.

  • Engineering Technician Accreditation.
  • HNC in an Engineering discipline (Level 4).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD.
